Sara Walker was born and educated in
Britain, where she gained a BA in Modern Languages from Oxford and
an MA in Latin American Studies from London University. Since 1967,
she has been working in Brazil, mainly in the private ELT institute
sector, but also as Coordinator of English at the Brazilian Foreign
Ministry Diplomatic Academy. She was co-founder and Principal of IBI-Independent
British Institute in Brasilia from 1973 to 1996 when she officially
retired.
Now working as a
consultant, she is a former President of LAURELS (an association of
private ELT institutes) and of BRAZ-TESOL (Brazils largest
English teachers association). She has recently been appointed
Project Manager of a British Council/State Government of Tocantins
partnership to improve the level of
English and teaching skills of state school teachers in the Northern
Brazilian state of Tocantins.
Sara wrote the English 2000
Landmark Review of ELT in Brazil for the British Council (1997,
revised edition 2000) and is currently on the Editorial Advisory
Panel of the ELT Journal (Oxford University Press). |
