New words competition

Macmillan Dictionaries - New Words Competition, 2008Have you read our 'Word of the Week' feature and thought you had a great idea for an article? Is there a word that you keep reading and you think the world should know about?

If the answer is 'yes' to either of these questions, the Macmillan Dictionaries team would like you to send us your suggestion for a future 'Word of the Week' article. The winner who is judged to have sent in the most interesting word will see their pick turned into a 'Word of the Week' by MED Magazine contributor Kerry Maxwell. They will also receive a copy of the fantastic RSC Shakespeare Complete Works (published by Palgrave Macmillan with the Royal Shakespeare Company) and the new edition of the Macmillan English Dictionary.

If you would like to enter this competition, please read the following information before submitting your suggestion:

  • To be eligible for consideration, words should be submitted with two 'real life' references or quotable sources. These can be taken from newspapers or websites, for example. Please see this week's 'Word of the Week' article for an idea of the kind of reference required.
  • The word must already be in use, so should not be devised by the entrant.

The deadline for entries for the New Words Competition is May 31st, 2008. Entries should be submitted by email or by post to:
