MED launched across Britain
In March 2002, the Macmillan English Dictionary (MED) was launched across the UK. Samuel Johnson’s house in central London was the venue for the initial launch, led by V.S. Naipaul, Nobel Prize winner for English Literature. Later, the Dictionary was shown off to good effect at the 36th International IATEFL conference, in York. See photos of the London Launch here.
First ever issue of MED Magazine
The first issue of the free online MED Magazine was published in October 2002. The magazine offers exclusive access to feature articles and regular columns covering a wide range of topics and activities relating to English teaching and the Macmillan English Dictionary.
Macmillan English Dictionary wins the Duke of Edinburgh ESU Award 2002
December saw the Macmillan English Dictionary (MED) team heading for Buckingham Palace to receive the 2002 Duke of Edinburgh English-Speaking Union (ESU) Award from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh KG KT, President of the ESU and Chairman of the English Language Council. MED was the first dictionary in eight years to win the Award, which is presented annually to the best and most innovative work in the field of teaching or learning the English Language.
