Word of the Week flying high
From May of this year, half a million travellers on British Midland Airlines would have the chance to read about new words in the English language, courtesy of a new column in the Voyager in-flight magazine, ‘Word to Watch’. The column was written by the author of Macmillan’s Word of the Week, and regular contributor to MED Magazine, Kerry Maxwell.

Gwyneth Fox’s travels to tell the world about the Macmillan English Dictionary this year took her to Chile, Peru, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Singapore, Ethiopia and Ghana. Jon Hird, meanwhile, headed for Lithuania to give workshops on MED. Macmillan again sponsored the Spelling Championship for non-native speakers of English, in Agadir, and the English-Speaking Union International Public Speaking Competition Final in London.
