Macmillan English Dictionary Launch
VS Naipaul launches the Macmillan English Dictionary: 22nd March 2002
The distinguished gathering of the great and good ensured a pleasant birth, and media coverage in the next day's newspapers and on TV. Despite the predictable rainy weather, the MED was blessed and launched at Samuel Johnson's house in central London by both a resuscitated Samuel Johnson, father of the English dictionary, and rain-sodden VS Naipaul, the Nobel Prize winner for English Literature.
